First thoughts and gobbledygook

Hi all – this is site for me to post things about music, hockey and anything else that might be too long for a twitter post.

First off the name comes from this scene in the movie “Almost Famous”:

“Here’s a theory for you to disregard . . . completely”

So many great quotes in here . . . .

“It takes them less than two minutes to accomplish what Jethro Tull takes HOURS to not accomplish . . . “

“Jim Morrison? He’s a drunken buffoon! Posing as a poet”

“Give me the Guess Who, come on they’ve got the courage to be drunken buffoons, which makes them poetic!”

“Yes? . . . No!”

“The most brilliant piece of gobbledygook ever!”

This leads me to one of my favorite stories that coincides with this clip. Philip Seymour Hoffman as Bangs holds up this album when talking about the Live version of American Woman:

The Guess Who – Live at the Paramount

In 1993 or so, my friends Barry and Gillis had a cassette version of this album and they played me this version of American Woman so I could hear Burton Cummings go crazy with his improvised singing. Listening back to it now, it is even more crazy than I remember. Actual lyric includes:

“What’s you gonna due, mom-a, now that the roast beef’s gone . . . .
What’s you gonna due, baby, now that the roast beef’s gone . . .
Goin’ down Arizona way, Cherokee is on the phone . . .”

WTF????

Listen here and Enjoy the drunken poetic buffoonery of the Guess Who . . . .
